Approximately 50 girls from the Eden Therapeutic Boarding School for at-risk girls in Kibbutz Karmia marched through the city of Sderot this week, calling for action to prevent sexual violence against girls and women. They were joined by Acting Mayor Yehudit Uliel Malka, community center and municipal employees, and local residents.
The Eden Association, which operates a therapeutic boarding school for at-risk girls, has launched an ambitious fundraising campaign to establish a social and business center in the Negev dedicated to advancing gender equality: “It will be the first center of its kind in Israel—a network of connections that will enable women to move forward and help others do the same.”
The Eden Association has launched a new crowdfunding campaign to establish a gender equality center in an unexpected location: Kibbutz Dorot in the Negev. The ambitious campaign aims to raise NIS 250,000 to establish Genesis – a center offering programs, workshops, training, and activities where women can meet, share the challenges they face, and acquire practical tools for advancing gender equality.

The boarding school near the Gaza border, serving girls who have no other safe place in the world, became dangerous in an instant. By chance—or fate—the girls were not there when the facility was directly hit. Yet their staff continued working under fire and in the face of danger: “While hiding in the safe room with terrorists inside her home, she spoke with the mother of one of the girls.”
Now, in a new location, the girls are once again trying to rebuild their lives: “Coming back here—even though I didn’t want to at first—truly saved me.”
A filmed documentary project initiated by the Eden Association, which supports women at risk in the Gaza border region, brings together the survival stories of 30 women who survived the October 7 massacre.
Ronit Shoval Atwan, CEO of the Eden Association: “History is usually told solely through men’s eyes. Without women’s voices, there will be perspectives on the war whose very existence no one will ever know about.”
Shuli Cohen, one of the participants in the Women Photograph War exhibition on display at Eden 51 in Kibbutz Dorot, joined Adi Weiss, Director of Content at the Eden Association, for an interview with Arad Nir during a special Channel 12 news broadcast. Together, they discussed the importance of the project.
The Eden Association opened the traveling “Women Photograph War” exhibition in Tel Aviv as part of its collaboration with the Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality, marking the 2024 International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The exhibition was displayed at three locations across the city over the course of a month.
