This exhibition is part of Eden Association’s Women Tell War project, which documents the testimonies of women from Israel’s security and emergency services who served on October 7 and throughout the Swords of Iron War.
The exhibition creates a network of verbal and visual connections, translating the sounds, smells and sensations of the battlefield into art. Women who carried weapons and women whose compassionate hands comforted the wounded and the dead. Women who witnessed unimaginable horrors and acted with courage and determination on the front lines and the home front, shoulder to shoulder with their fellow soldiers—real-life Amazons of flesh and blood.
The exhibition features filmed testimonies from women in the security and emergency services—a rare documentary record in which they share, in their own words, heart-wrenching experiences from the battlefield and from life in its aftermath.
Inspired by these testimonies, nine artists created works that explore gender, feminist, social, national and personal dimensions, while examining this moment in history as a formative event. The themes represented include the image of the female combatant, gender identity in relation to the military ethos, equality and the burden of proof, vulnerability and strength, post-trauma and testimony as a form of healing.
